Abbie Wood is the European Youth Olympic Champion for 400m IM after winning Great Britain’s first gold medal last night.

It was the 1,000th gold medal in the history of the European Youth Olympic Festival to be won.

Her swim can be viewed here.

Congratulations to Abbie on an amazing achievement as it was her first international competition. Her time of 4:51.53 was a 4 sec PB and leads her perfectly into her favoured 200m Breaststroke today for which she is the British Age Group record holder.

@britishswimming Can I claim a silver medal at Nationals in a couple of weeks for being the second oldest male swimmer?!
