Lincoln Vulcan’s retain their junior league title
Lincoln Vulcans Swimming Club retained the Lincolnshire Junior League trophy after a tremendous effort from their young swimmers at Yarborough Leisure Centre. In a closely fought final with rivals Cleethorpes & Scunthorpe Aquatic (CASA) Vulcans came out on top winning the final round by a clear 40 points.
Their Head Coach Fred Furniss was eager to maintain top spot for his junior competitors and a rousing team-talk before the competition left everyone raring to go and in no doubt that only first place would be acceptable!
Lincoln Vulcan’s and CASA came into the final round of the championship on equal points after the previous two rounds. The swimmers started the gala knowing that both clubs looked inseparable on paper but the opening win set the tone for the evening and a total of 20 wins,12 second-places and 11 third-places out of 49 races saw the Vulcans finish clear winners by a massive 40 points.
Head Coach of Lincoln Vulcans, Fred Furniss, congratulated the swimmers after their impressive victory.
“All of our team has performed brilliantly tonight. We knew that the result could be very close and it is a tribute to the determination and ability of the team that they have won the gala, and the title, so convincingly.”
