Chen and Liu set up showpiece 10m final

27th April 2014

Chen Ruolin and Liu Huixia set up a showpiece 10m Platform final on the last day of the 2014 FINA/NVC Diving World Series at London Aquatics Centre.

Olympic champion Chen has never been defeated at this pool, winning 10m and 10m Synchro gold at the 2012 World Cup and London 2012 Olympic Games.

But 16-year old Liu has been untouchable on the World Series this season, scoring more than 400 to win in both Beijing and Dubai.

And it was Liu who led the way from the semi-finals in London, scoring 390.55 to win the second semi-final from Chen’s 379.35.

Canada’s Roseline Filion (365.85) was third to progress from the second semi-final, holding off Ukraine’s world bronze medallist Yulia Prokopchuk (354.90).

Meaghan Benfeito will join national teammate Filion in the final after leading qualifiers from the first semi, scoring 361.75 to reach her third World Series final of the season.

Malaysia’s Olympic bronze medallist Pandelela Rinong Pamg followed Benfeito through in 356.20 and will aim to go on better than her silver medals from Beijing and Dubai this season.

Home favourite Tonia Couch completes the line-up. The Brit won bronze in Beijing and progressed from the first semi-final on 341.70, denying Mexico’s 2009 world champion Paola Espinosa by 1.05 points.
