Daley tops men’s platform prelims

Great Britain’s Olympic bronze medallist Tom Daley made his first international appearance of the season on the final day of the FINA/Midea Diving World Series Edinburgh leg, winning the Men’s 10m platform preliminary’s.

He enters this World Series season with a new order to his list, and after closing his prelim with a top score of 90.75 for his reverse 3 ½ somersault, the 18-year old finished with 518.80.

"It was a little nerve-wracking opening with an armstand but it was good to be in front of the crowd again and get my motivation back," said Daley.

Mexico’s Ivan Garcia progressed second behind Daley into tonight’s final, finishing second with 493.75 and impressing with the difficulty of his dives - notably the inward 4 1/2 somersaults with tuck (DD 4.1) and forward 2 1/2 somersaults, 3 twists piked (DD 3.8).

Meanwhile, bronze medallist from the opening two legs of this year's World Series in Beijing and Dubai, Russia’s Victor Minibaev has his eyes set on another medal in Edinburgh as he scored 489.80 to finish third.

With just four entries, Ukraine’s Anton Zakahorov will compete again in the final after finishing fourth in the prelim on his World Series Debut with a score of 428.15.
