The government’s new sport strategy has recognised the positive impact that physical activity has on an individual’s mental health and wellbeing, and pledges to get more older people active.
Sporting Future: A New Strategy for an Active Nation was released today following a three month public consultation period. Developed as a cross-governmental approach to improving the physical and mental wellbeing of the nation, the strategy aims to get everyone active, with a particular focus on older people.
Stalybridge Swimming Club, based in the North West, is an ASA swim21 Essential club, having first gained the NGB kite mark in 2012.
The main reasons that the club decided to undertake swim21 was to ensure they were following correct guidelines, especially in relation to dealing with children, to ensure their volunteers were appropriately qualified and to be recognised as a quality club locally/nationally.

This has led to some of England’s best young talent dropping out and not pursuing their sporting ambitions. Today, Sport England launches a new scheme, Backing the Best, to support talented new athletes.

The ASA North West Region in partnership with the England Talent Programme will be holding 2 training camps on:-
Monday 29th December at Manchester Aquatic Centre and Saturday 28th March at Accrington Academy.
Selection will take place following the ASA/British Gas National Age Groups Championships in conjunction with the England Programme Officer

A huge thank you to all delegates who attended the ASA Club Conferences on 21/22 June and 5/6 July 2014. The events were held at four regional locations across the country and staged a unique platform for dynamic learning between both ASA staff and club delegates.
