John Crowther

John was appointed Chairman of the ASA in October 2009 having worked with the ASA on the new HQ project and British Swimming as Chair of the LOC of the FINA World Diving Series event at Sheffield.

Although he is known to those in the sports world for his stint as Chief Executive of the LTA, a post he held for nine years, John spent much of his career in the aircraft and tank industry.

After joining Hawker Siddeley Aviation (now BAE Systems) in 1973 as a graduate engineer, John moved to Vickers Defence Systems as their Commercial Director, becoming Chief Executive in 1995. Key challenges in his time there was the need for Vickers to support the deployment of Challenger 1 tanks to the Gulf and the securing of the Challenger 2 contract in the face of intense international competition. John stepped down as Chief Executive in 1997 to become Chief Executive of the LTA.

During his time at the LTA, he prioritised the modernisation of the governing body in addition to proving the case for the National Tennis Centre and launching the project.

John was on the Board of CCPR between 2001-2003, and was re-appointed as Treasurer in February 2007. He was also a Trustee of Sports Leaders UK from 2000 to 2009. In addition John is Chairman of North Yorkshire Sport (County Sports Partnership) and Member of the Major Match Group at the ECB (England and Wales Cricket Board).
