Much of Ray’s working career was spent in the oil industry and from an early date he was required to perform in a supervisory or management capacity.

He has been involved in swimming for a number of years and began playing water polo when based abroad for the Army.

Until 2002 Ray acted as an ASA Preliminary Teacher, Club Coach and Tutor as well as being an official on district and county lists as a starter, judge and timekeeper.

As a member of a number of swimming committees Ray was elected ASA South East Region Member of the ASA Board in 2006.

These commitments have, in the past, also been deployed in other sports particularly rowing where, as a former senior oarsman, Ray has acted as Finance Controller for the National Rowing Championships for 14 years, Finance Officer for the World Veteran Rowing Championships and a member of the Management Committee Henley Womens Regatta for 15 years and a  volunteer helper at the Rowing World Cup in 2005 and the Rowing World Championships in 2006.

The experience gained in all of these roles and his personal motivation has proved invaluable.
