Clubs encouraged to grab a grant in 2012

Swimming clubs from across the country have the chance to grab a grant worth up to £1,000 in 2012, courtesy of British Gas.

The British Gas Club Grant scheme is open to all swim21 accredited clubs and has been designed to help support club development up and down the country.

Funding can be used by clubs for a range of activities, from increasing club membership to providing better opportunities for existing club members. There is also an opportunity for clubs to double the funding through Sport England’s Sportsmatch scheme.

In 2011, over £60,000 was awarded as part of the scheme which has helped hundreds of clubs over the past 18 months.

Brighton Swimming Club was awarded £1,000 in 2011, to enable more young people to swim more often. The funding has allowed the club to have an additional two hours of pool time per week, enabling them to take on 50 new members.

John Ottoway, Chairman of Brighton SC said, “The extra space and time has allowed us to invite new young swimmers to train alongside the main squad for the first time.

“Prior to this a lack of space was preventing us from inviting young talented swimmers to extra coaching sessions, which delayed their development or may have even lost them to other sports.”

Clubs interested in applying for funding should download the British Gas Club Grants application form and return to their regional office prior to the deadline.

The deadline for entries for the next round of the British Gas Club Grant scheme is Wednesday 9thMay 2012. Download the Information Pack for further details.
