The ASA is the governing body for the sport in England. In this section you will find all you need to know about joining a club or competing in England and becoming a swimming teacher or coach.

The IoS delivers the ASA’s courses and is a member organisation. Whether you are a teacher, coach, employer or club you will find everything you need to know about qualifications or educating your workforce.

The benefits of swim21 Learn to Swim or School Swimming Accreditation

The swim21 programme for Learn to Swim and School Swimming has been written as a blue print for good practice to help organisations develop. Whether you just go through the process or take the final step to accreditation you will be able to take advantage of a range of benefits.

The swim21 process aims help you improve your programme by providing:

  • A Self assessment tool to help organisations review what is currently happening/not happening within their organisation
  • CD-ROM of good practice resources to help benchmark programmes and implement change in line with recommended good practice
  • Access to an accreditation opportunity and a team of assessors who visit centres and offer independent advice on how to improve key areas of the swimming programme in line with the swim21 criteria

Once you have reached the minimum criteria you can apply for an assessment day to secure full swim21 Accreditation. swim21 Accreditation provides:

  • External validation for running a quality learn to swim/school swimming programme in line with ASA good practice
  • An official swim21 certificate which will be valid for four years
  • Access to swim21 logos for promotional purposes
  • swim21 window stickers to display at the entrance to accredited centre(s)/organisation(s)
  • swim21 listing on the ASA and British swimming website and in other relevant ASA publications
