The ASA Swimming Conference 2011 - Fit For The Future will take place 9am – 4pm, Saturday 22 October 2011 at the Crowne Plaza, Nottingham. Read on to learn about the great workshops on offer, the ASA Council Meeting, and instructions on booking your place.

The ASA Swimming Conference 2011 will incorporate a full day’s conference programme with keynote guest speakers that will inspire you with forward thinking and give you a fresh perspective on your club activities, with the ultimate aim of helping you make your club fit for the future.

As well as guest speakers David Sparkes (Chief Executive of the ASA) and Sir Keith Mills (Deputy Chair of LOCOG), you will have the opportunity to attend workshops. These sessions will incorporate hands on activities and will be interactive and practical, providing you with action and development plans to immediately take away and help your club.

You will also have the chance to visit the Communication Zone where you will be able to speak to ASA Staff about matters that concern your club. This includes information about campaigns such as the Big Splash and Swimfit, the swimming.org website and how to develop your club personnel with the help of the IoS.

The Drop-in Zone will also offer you the opportunity to communicate with the ASA staff and provide crucial feedback to help shape the future.

  • Following the Conference you are welcome to observe the ASA Annual Council Meeting, which will include the inauguration of the incoming president.

WORKSHOPS

The day will feature a number of interactive workshops that will run in the morning and afternoon, to give you the chance to attend two that interest you the most. Workshops include;

  • Grow your swimming club: how to transform your swimming club and make it vibrant, visible and viable – Benefit from best practice from sports clubs at all levels with exciting, positive and proven action points, including how to attract new members, retain existing ones and grow revenue.
  • Shaping your future with the IoS – Discover the range of provisions available from the Institute of Swimming to support you and your club’s development, get hands on experience of online learning and receive a free online learning CPD.
  • Big Splash and beyond – Details of the opportunities presented by this national campaign, focusing on how clubs can get involved and drive new participants into the club network.
  • Developing young leaders – An activity based session which will help to develop leadership skills in young people through team building and development exercises.
  • ASA 2013 – 2017 Strategy – A presentation of the proposed framework from the development of the 2013-2017 strategy, as well as an outline of the learning from the past three years, Sport England’s 2013-2017 strategy and what it means for the ASA. THIS WORKSHOP IS NOW FULLY BOOKED
  • Young Volunteers: you are the future! – An ideal session for young people interested in volunteering in the sport and a great opportunity to input into the work of the Youth Forum.
  • Online Membership System – Get a first look at the new system, learn how to log in and find out what the system can do for your club and how it can be used effectively to maintain details of current members, add new members and easily process renewals.  
  • Swim21 – Shaping the future – A unique opportunity to be involved in the national review of the Swim21 process – get involved and give your feedback and ideas and help shape the future of the scheme.
  • The swimmers' journey ‘maximise results from your Learn to Swim programme to retain more swimmers’ – Explore ways for clubs to develop successful learn to swim programmes. Discuss ways to improve swimmer retention rates, increase club revenue and ultimately achieve more motivated swimmers and happier parents! THIS WORKSHOP IS NOW FULLY BOOKED
