‘Join In’ swimming with new national campaign this summer

Join In is a DCMS initiative funded through the Cabinet Office, which aims to capture the boom from the Olympic and Paralympic Games, to encourage people to give back to their local community.

The national campaign will promote active citizenship and will culminate in an annual themed event, focusing on making the most from London 2012. It has a direct link with British Swimming’s The Big Splash, possessing the same fundamental goal – to get people swimming.

On 18th and 19th August, Join In Local Sport will encourage the nation to head to where it started for every great champion – their local sports club.

The aim of Join In is for every sports club or community group in the UK to put on a special event or activity on the Join In Weekend, in order to capture the enthusiasm for sport that we know this summer’s sporting events will generate.

Whether clubs want to sign up more members, supporters or volunteers, this is sure to be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to attract local people who may never have visited their local club before. And Join In will help them to do it.

Club benefits include:

  • Showcase what you can offer
  • Recruit new participants
  • Engage new volunteers
  • Fundraise

Your Join In festival could include:

  • Getting together for a club fun day
  • Delivering an aquatic festival
  • Running discipline taster sessions
  • Organising volunteer training

From posters to practical guides, Join In is providing club kitbags full of useful resources and advice for clubs hosting events to encourage others to Join In.
