Casson closes curtains on ASA Masters Champs with a World beating swim

27 Oct 2013

Carnforth swimmer Sophie Casson drew the curtains on the British Gas ASA National Masters and Senior Age Group Championships 2013 in style, posting a new World Record time of 4:15.74 in the 25-29yrs 400m Freestyle.

Not only this, Loughborough University sprint specialist Amy Smith secured her hat-trick of World Record swims on the final day in Ponds Forge, touching in 54.16 to smash through the previous 25-29yrs World leading benchmark.

The Camphill Edwardians quartet of Craig Norrey, Joanne Seymour, Hayley Bettinson and Alan Cooper also added to the European Record tally in the 200-239yrs Mixed 200m Medley Team event, securing the victory in a time of 2:02.57.

City of Bradford swimmer Christopher Brown (32.01) lowered the previous British best in the 60-64yrs 50m Backstroke, alongside Oundle’s Nicola Latty who took the title in the 40-44yrs 400m Individual Medley in a new British Record time of 5:19.89.

In a whirlwind weekend which saw six World Records, 28 European Records and 109 British Records fall across three days; it is safe to say that British Masters swimming is well and truly riding on the crest of a wave.
