England outclass Wales in Commonwealth Champs

06 April 2014

England Women outclass Wales on the second day of the Commonwealth Water Polo Championships winning 35-1 (8-1, 6-0,11-0, 10-0).

After a disappointing last minute defeat against Scotland in their opening match the Wales Ladies faced an even more difficult task when they faced England in the first match of day two.

With a number of players from Team GBR in their starting line-up, tournament favourites England were playing their first game of the Championships.

The result went exactly to form England breezed to a 35-1 victory at the Aberdeen Sports Village.

It was always going to be a difficult game for the Welsh and they didn’t get off to the best start with England centre forward Angie Winstanley scoring within 20 seconds of the start.

England were too skillful on the ball and raced to a 8-1 lead after the first quarter, with Jenn Myo scoring Wales’ only goal in reply.

GBR teamates Kathryn Fowler, Chloe Wilcox and Rosie Huck all scored five goals each as the England team silenced a strong Welsh support with their fast pace counter attacking play.

Wales couldn’t handle their attack and found England goalkeeper’s Rosie Morris and Jade Smith in fine form.

England play South Africa in the first game on Monday.
