To find out more about British Gas Swimfit, click hereSwimfit is a motivational tool for the pool developed by the experts at the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA), supported by British Gas and Speedo.
The programme is designed to help swimmers achieve their fitness goals, whether that is weight loss, to tone, to improve technique or just to become fitter and stronger. Supported with easy to follow session cards, swimmers have the option to progress independently or take part in a scheduled group swimming class.
Delivered by trained Activators, the group sessions bring a social element to the pool as well as providing swimmers the confidence, motivation and support they need to get the most out of their session. Swimmers can also log and track their swims with the on-line coach at swimfit.com.
Mark Mantell, Spirit Health and Fitness Operations Manager, commented: “We had been looking for a swimming based programme for some time which would offer our pool users the same level of engagement and progressive goal settings that gym users currently receive”.
"We had been looking for a swimming based programme for some time which would offer our pool users the same level of engagement and progressive goal settings that gym users currently receive," - Spirit Health and Fitness Operations Manager Mark Mantell“For our clubs teams, Swimfit represents more than just a group activity session for members and a series of swimming programme cards, it is a vehicle through which we can better support and engage all our members who primarily use only the swimming pool. It is also a value added service we can offer to hotel residents to enhance their hotel stay experience.
"Swimfit can now be incorporated into our member programming right from the initial induction, though to exercise prescription and also into our club member retention initiatives. The scheme has also provided us with an opportunity to up skill our club staff who will deliver the programme. They in turn have welcomed having another skill and qualification to add to their resume.”
Trained by the dedicated team at the ASA, Spirit Health will be able to offer four trained Activators per site.
Lara Lill, ASA Head of Health and Wellbeing commented: “The ASA is delighted to be working in partnership with Spirit health clubs to provide the Swimfit programme. Swimfit is a great way to motivate participants in the pool and to keep them coming back. Spirit is in the unique position of having a number of pools of various dimensions.
"Spirit has worked closely with us to ensure all the Activators are fully trained and as a result we are confident in the success of the programme.”
