Innovative new partnership to help fund community swimming groups

23 January 2013

A brand new partnership has been set up to provide a grant scheme with a focus on community participation in swimming over the next four years. The agreement brings together the knowledge and experience of the Swimming Trust and the ASA, the National Governing Body for Swimming, to manage the funding of community swimming programmes for the Swimathon Foundation.

Grants will be awarded using monies raised through The Swimathon Foundation, including the high profile annual Swimathon event.

We are confident this innovative new partnership will challenge existing swimmers and get new people swimming.

Both the Swimming Trust and the Swimathon Foundation are dedicated to delivering opportunities to enjoy swimming and to create a positive impact on the lives of individuals and communities. This new partnership will utilise the expertise of the ASA in targeting communities where the grants are most needed.

Dennis Yeoman, Chair of The Swimming Trust commented, “The Swimming Trust are proud to be entering into a partnership arrangement over the next four years with The Swimathon Foundation.

“Swimathon have done so much to raise money for charitable purposes and to support community groups with their swimming related projects. We share mutual objectives and will work closely with the Foundation to benefit all those local groups who do so much to promote participation in our sport.”

Anthony Kendall, Chair of The Swimathon Foundation said, "This is a good agreement for The Swimathon Foundation and The Swimming Trust, and more importantly for current and future swimmers.

“We are confident this innovative new partnership will challenge existing swimmers and get new people swimming. The agreement establishes a new grants scheme which will encourage hundreds of local community groups and clubs to think of new ways to promote swimming as a fun and healthy activity for all and persuade many more people to take up and enjoy swimming in the future."

Further information regarding how community groups can apply for funding through the new grants scheme will be published in coming months.
