Water Polo Chairman in Queen’s Birthday Honours List
18th June 2012
City of Manchester Water Chairman, Mike Glover has received an OBE for Service to Water Polo in the Queen’s Birthday honours list.
“Mike Glover’s contribution to the sport if Water Polo is without precedent, he has provided the leadership in Manchester and the North West to provide a model for water polo that we should all look to replicate as it has encouraged many children to take up Water Polo,” said David Sparkes, Chief Executive of British Swimming.
“He has also driven many changes in the Game which put down the foundations for the development of the elite game which has enabled us to field teams in London at the Olympics.
“This National Honour reflects the massive contribution he has made.”
Recently Glover was involved with the creation of a new partnership between City of Manchester Water Polo and Manchester City Council which will see new coaching programmes being introduced across the city giving both young people and adults the opportunity to try the sport for the first time or develop their water polo skills with the chance to play more regularly.
A primary and secondary schools Water Polo League will be created along with a Manchester Water Polo Club League to encourage people to get involved with the sport and give them the chance to compete. To help the leagues develop strong sustainable community water polo clubs will be supported in Harpurhey, Moston, Wythenshawe and Gorton.
