Appointment of Chairman of ASA Group Board

Edward Lord O.B.E has been announced as the new Chairman of the ASA Group Board, and will lead the organisation on the development and agreement of the four year strategic plan to drive participation in swimming. His appointment will follow formal nomination to the AGM and commence immediately afterwards on 19th October
Lord, who is the chairman of Capital Ambition, a £38 million investment fund supporting improvement and innovation projects in London’s local authorities, brings invaluable knowledge and experience to the organisation. Since 2001, Lord has been an elected member of the City of London Corporation where he currently chairs the Standards Committee.
"We have ambitious targets for increasing participation in aquatics and providing the base from which talented athletes can achieve international success," - Edward LordHe is also a lead member on the Olympic and Paralympic Legacy, having led the City’s engagement with the London Olympic Games as Deputy Chairman of the 2012 Committee, and a non-executive director and former chairman of Local Partnerships LLP, the commercial and efficiency taskforce jointly owned by HM Treasury and the Local Government Association.
Commenting on his appointment, Lord said: “I am delighted to be joining the ASA as the new Group Board Chairman. We have ambitious targets for increasing participation in aquatics and providing the base from which talented athletes can achieve international success in the water. I am looking forward to working alongside David Sparkes and his staff team as well as the countless volunteers who contribute so much to swimming, disability swimming, diving, synchronised swimming and water polo.“

ASA Chief Executive David Sparkes added: “I’m delighted that Edward will be joining us at the ASA. He brings considerable knowledge and experience to the leadership to the role.
“We’re now entering into a new period of strengthening governance through the establishment of the group board and I’m quite sure that Edward’s background and experience will help us all through guidance and building on the success of the previous leadership.”
The decision to appoint Edward Lord O.B.E. came following the decision made by his predecessor John Crowther to not be a candidate for Chairman of the ASA Group Board.
