East Region’s Don Neate has been elected ASA President for the 2010 / 2011 season.

Neate will fill the role between October 2010 and October 2011, taking over from West Midlands Region’s John Russell who held the position for the previous 12 months.

Neate became involved with officiating at Bury St Edmunds Swimming Club, starting as a timekeeper at his son’s galas before graduating to Club Records Officer and later Club Fixtures Secretary.

Wife Pat was also an active member at the club, becoming Club Secretary and later, Club Chairman.

Neate took over from his wife as Suffolk County Secretary in 1989 and remained in the position for ten years, also becoming County President on two occasions.

With the advent of regionalisation, he was elected chairman of ASA East Region Shadow Management Board before fulfilling the top appointment of East Region’s President in 2006.

While the position of ASA President is usually elected by the Regions in rotation, the decision falls to the ASA Board during Olympic years. As a result, Board Member Ray Gordon will assume the role for the 2011 / 2012 season.
