The ASA is the governing body for the sport in England. In this section you will find all you need to know about joining a club or competing in England and becoming a swimming teacher or coach.

Become qualified as a poolside helper

Young people and volunteers who wish to assist on poolside can now undertake a new ASA qualification, appropriate for any aquatic environment.

This qualification is no longer available. Please click here to visit the Volunteering section to find out the current volunteer training.An updated version which is now more suitable and accessible for volunteers in clubs, the ASA helpers certificate will provide an introduction to teaching and coaching as well as how to help a more senior coach or teacher and to be safe on poolside.

Consisting of three hours in the classroom and three hours practical work, the helpers can practice what they have learnt during the course schedule.
