Water Polo to be included in London Youth Games

17 May 2010
Water Polo will join the likes of Swimming and Athletics at this year’s Balfour Beatty London Youth Games taking place from 3rd to 4th July at Crystal Palace.

It will be classed as a ‘development sport’ alongside Handball, super8 Athletics and adaptive indoor rowing. The development sports will not count towards the overall Jubilee Cup standings but their inclusion is with a view to being included in the main London Youth Games programme in the future.

With an increased number of Water Polo participants in the London region Colin Brown, Director of London Swimming is pleased it will be part of the 2010 Games.

“To be included as a development sport in the London Youth Games is vital for Water Polo to establish itself in the consciousness of young Londoners,” he said.

“It is an exhilarating sport and being part of the exciting London Youth Games multi-sport environment can only encourage more youngsters to give Water Polo a go.”

Around 50,000 youngsters representing 33 London borough teams are expected to have participated in the 2010 Games across 30 sports.
