In June’s Swimming Times, former PR officer for the Borough of Stockton Swim Scheme Gordon Bruce examined changing attitudes towards volunteers in the swimming community.
On Wednesday 20th April 2011 the ASA took part in the Youth Sports Trust organised Step into Sport Camp.
The British International Disability Swimming Championships, held at Ponds Forge Sheffield, from the 8th – 10th of April provided another fantastic opportunity for 20 young volunteers to showcase their skills and demonstrate their abilities. It was a great event rifled by the sheer involvement and excitement brought by the volunteers. Over the three days the young people had the opportunity to officiate, volunteer on poolside and shadow the announcers.
Every year the ASA uses the Aquaforce Awards as a chance to thank those who dedicate vital hours, days and weeks to our sport. This year, could it be you or your club that are honoured?

Last weekend 15 volunteers from the Young Disabled Volunteers Back Swimming programme volunteered at their first major national event – DSE Juniors.

The Young Disabled Volunteers Back Swimming programme has been nominated in the best mygames (powered by v) Digital Documenters category at the First Light Awards.
On the 5th of November, at Ilford County School, Essex, ‘Young Disabled Volunteers Back Swimming’ brought together London-based volunteers to celebrate v’s – the National Young Volunteers’ Service – 25th Hour project.
