RALF LITTLE VOLUNTEERS - YOU COULD TOO
25 Nov 2009
Spectators at the Nationwide Short Course Disability Swimming Championships last weekend may have spotted a familiar face amongst the volunteers helping at the event.
The Royle Family star Ralf Little joined helpers at the Sheffield event to publicise the importance of volunteering in sport and highlight the vital contribution that volunteers make to swimming events.
Little said “Working with Disability Sport Events on recent fundraising initiatives has made me want to find out more about their work. So what better way than to get my hands dirty and join the hundreds of volunteers who help them annually.
“I love sport, so supporting disabled athletes in their ambition to win gold is great fun as well as rewarding. I want my involvement to mean more than just putting my face and voice to the events.”
Volunteering is open to people of any age and you could find yourself involved in a wide variety of roles ranging from producing results to carrying kit for athletes.
Some volunteering requires many hours a week, some only a few each month. Even if you have a busy lifestyle you should still be able to find something that suits.
Most of all it gives you a fun and exciting opportunity to get involved with sport and play a vital part in the running of clubs and events.
