Organising an NCTP course
The National Curriculum Training Programme course provides the qualification ‘The Certificate for Teaching School Swimming (Key stages 1 and 2). Read on to find out more about it.
Reviewed and updated for the 2008/09 academic year - click here to read the updated specification - the National Curriculum Training Programme is open to any person working within a primary school swimming programme. This could be as a school teacher, classroom assistant, learning support staff, nursery nurse, qualified swimming teacher, parent, or other helper. In addition students involved in initial teacher training may also attend.
The certificate for teaching School Swimming SEN (Key stages 1 and 2) is open to any person working with children with Special Educational needs within a primary school swimming programme e.g. school teacher, classroom assistant, learning support staff, nursery nurse. PESSYP (PE & Sport Strategy for Young People) Funding
To improve the outcomes of school swimming it is essential to provide high quality school swimming lessons. PESSYP funding aims to build on the already established achievements from the previous PESSCL strategy. Part of this is to continue to increase school links with local sports clubs and increase the number of hours young people spend doing PE in a week. In order to achieve this it is important to ensure that teachers/assistants are equipped with the knowledge and skills to be able to deliver high quality PE to young people and the NCTP has been developed to deliver this to swimming teachers/assistants.
Please note: To encourage full utilisation of PESSYP funded courses there is an under-capacity fee of £10 per learner under the maximum number of learners allowed e.g. a Module 2 courses of 8 will be charged an under capacity fee of £20.
To find out if you are eligible for PESSYP funding and/or to register a NCTP course please complete the qualification registration form below and return it by post or e-mail. If you do not hear otherwise upon qualification registration confirmation then please assume that you have been granted PESSYP funding.
