ASA qualification levels

If you’ve made the decision to train to be a swimming teacher or coach, then you will need to choose a discipline and work through the levels.

Qualifications are currently offered at levels 1 to 3 on the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) and are mapped to the National Occupational Standards (NOS).

They include teaching aquatics, coaching diving, coaching swimming, coaching synchronised swimming, coaching water polo and more.

Specific prerequisites are identified within the relevant qualification specification found here. However generally for aquatic teaching/coaching qualiifcations, the entry requirement would be level 1.

Level 1 qualifications

The first qualification you require for any teaching/coaching discipline is the ASA level 1 award. If successful at level 1, you can then proceed to level 2.  The holder of an ASA level 1 award is qualified to support a senior qualified teacher/coach in the delivery of a pre-prepared session.
