The ASA is the governing body for the sport in England. In this section you will find all you need to know about joining a club or competing in England and becoming a swimming teacher or coach.

The IoS delivers the ASA’s courses and is a member organisation. Whether you are a teacher, coach, employer or club you will find everything you need to know about qualifications or educating your workforce.

Tutor Licence Renewal

Find out how to renew your ASA tutor licence.

To renew your ASA licence we require the following criteria.

  1. Hold an ASA Tutor qualification
  2. Original CRB confirmation at enhanced disclosure (within 3 years if undertaken through the ASA) – submitted every 3rd year
  3. CRB consent form (if CRB completed through another organisation) – submitted every 3rd year
  4. Evidence of having attended an accredited child protection workshop within the last 3 years (original attendance certificate must be enclosed)– submitted every 3rd year
  5. Certificate of public liability insurance – only if not an IOS member- to be submitted every year
  6. Evidence of tutoring an ASA Teaching/Coaching course within the last year at the highest level you are qualified at in each discipline
  7. Attendance at a minimum of one ASA training session.  (If directed to a further session by the Quality Assurance team this must also be attended.)
  8. Licence fee (£15.00 for IOS members, £20.00 for non-members)- every year
  9. Adherence to the ASA Code of Ethics/Conduct and acceptance of ASA jurisdiction on any breach of the Code
  10. Completed and signed Data Protection information
  11. Evidence documenting the requirements of your electives- every year

Please note criteria 2, 3 and 4 are only required on the third application

New Licence Scheme

By introducing a new licensing scheme for the various roles we can ensure that all the ASA licensed workforce meet the needs of child protection and Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS), formally Criminal Records Bureau (CRB). This ensures that all our licensed workforce provide a quality service.

The below roles will need to be licensed to perfom the following roles:

  • Tutor
  • Tutor/Assessor
  • Assessor
  • Overseas Tutor
  • Trainee Tutor
  • CPD Presenter
