Finding volunteer opportunities
Have you ever thought you’d like to volunteer? Well, you can use the national Do It! website to find opportunities in your area. Read on for more.
A government database launched in 2001 means that finding a volunteering opportunity near you is only a mouse click away. Simply click on the link at the bottom of the page to access the site. But before you do, here is some guidance on how to search for swimming opportunities on the site.
During the 12 months to November 2009, more than 300 swimming clubs registered volunteer opportunities with do-it.org.
Once on the www.do-it.org.uk website go to the quick search facility on the page and choose Sport and Outdoor Activities as the area you wish to volunteer for. Then enter your postcode in the postcode box. Now click ‘find it’.
You will be taken to a page highlighting all the sporting opportunities in your area. To show just the swimming-related options enter the term ‘swimming’ into the ‘and/or’ search on the right hand side of the results and click ‘find it’ again. This should now show you all the swimming results.
If you cannot find any opportunities in your area, don’t worry, it doesn’t mean they aren’t there. You can also try contacting your clubs directly. Simply click on the 'Find My Pool' facility to the right of this page. Your local pool should be able to direct you to your nearest swimming club.
