Whether you have just recently qualified as a Sports Leader or are simply interested in becoming more involved within our sport, then all the information you will need can be found on this website.
The ASA welcomes volunteers of all ages and you certainly do not need to have a background in swimming to enable you to be a part of our volunteering community. There are many different ways in which you can become involved with clubs, events and in any of our aquatic disciplines, each with its own unique environment which will allow you to develop and build your leaderships skills.
So what opportunities are available?
• Officiating
Officials are required at all local, regional, national and international events and without them the competitions would just not be able to go ahead. Officiating qualifications start with the Young Officials Award or Judge Level 1 and progress to British Swimming Referees. It is a great way to get involved and learn more about the sport whilst having fun and meeting new people!
Becoming a swimming teacher or coach can be very rewarding; this could be teaching young people how to swim or being part of inspiring a young person to reach their full potential as a professional athlete. There are opportunities available in all of the different disciplines and the first qualification you would get is the ASA Level 1 Certificate (UKCC 1).
If you think you are cut out for management, then try your hand at the team manager training. This covers everything you will need to know when it comes to taking teams to competitions and events. The course is designed as a starter toolkit for improving your leadership, communication, administration and management skills.
• Young Aquatic Organisers Award
The Young Aquatic Organiser Award is designed for young people aged between 14 and 18 who want to develop their leadership and coaching skills. By completing this award you would have a greater insight into the running of the ASA and its clubs and gain the skills to help plan, deliver and run an aquatic event. It will also allow you to get a placement at a Swim 21 swimming club.
• Club volunteering
Volunteers are vital for swimming clubs, as without them most clubs would not run. There are plenty of volunteering opportunities that are available and roles to suit everyone. Even if you only have a few hours to give a week there is something for you! You could become part of a club committee, teach or coach, help with the organising of events, help with the clubs publicity or website the opportunities are endless!
