Celebrate National Student Volunteering Week 2012
2012 is an exciting year to be involved in sport; with the eyes of the world on London and the clock ticking down it is the perfect opportunity to become involved and volunteer.
It is time to get excited and celebrate the hard work volunteers do whilst encouraging more people to get actively involved and support their local community.
Student Volunteering Week is a campaign led by Volunteering England which raises awareness of volunteers in further or higher education and aims to get more students involved as volunteers across the country.
Student Volunteering Week runs from the 20th – 26th February and offers the perfect opportunity for all student volunteers, or those who want to become volunteers, to become more engaged with their local communities. This is your opportunity to have fun and try something new!
Do you want to know that you are helping to make a real difference to the people around you?
Volunteering not only aids local communities and organisations, it enhances your employability and enables you to develop the personal skills that employers will value.
Volunteering also gives you the opportunity to apply your school, college or university learning to a new context, develop your ability to work as part of a team, build your confidence and self-esteem while making new friends and most importantly having fun.
You could gain experience of working on a committee, fundraising or organising events, developing skills which could benefit you in the future.

Volunteering within aquatics
Anyone can become a volunteer within aquatics and there are a huge number of opportunities available! The best way to find local opportunities is:
- To ask your local club
- Check the ASA website
- Contact your Regional ASA Officers
- Contact your local volunteering centre
The future growth of the aquatic disciplines depends heavily on the skills, knowledge and commitment of its volunteer workforce.
It may be something as simple as providing IT support, helping with club admin, become a technical official or helping to run aquatic competitions.
There are also professional roles available within clubs if you wish to gain ASA qualifications. You can commit as little or as much time as you would like.
