Alex Harrison - Chair of the National Youth Forum

I started diving 11 years ago when I was seven years old. I competed in diving reaching National Age Groups and gained a place on the IOS AASE programme for diving. This helped me to become involved in the other side of the sport as a coach, official and volunteer.

Alex Harrison

I am now a Level 2 qualified coach, coaching regularly at my club and for a leisure centre operator in London, with divers competing successfully at regional and county competitions and National Skills Finals.

In addition to coaching, I am a judge, announcer and recorded and have judged at National Age Group events. Last year, I was involved in the British Swimming Event Volunteer Programme and trained to become part of the British Swimming volunteer event management team (specifically as a Field of Play Manager). In 2012, I volunteered at the London 2012 Paralympic Games as an Athlete Kit Team Member.

Within my club, I hold the role of Competition Secretary and as such, organise two club competitions a year, as well as two external competitions for divers from other clubs – one a Master’s event and the other for younger divers under the age of 18.

Outside of volunteering, I am employed as a trainee leisure centre manager, working across several leisure centres in London – so there really is nothing but aquatics in my life!

My greatest memory so far in the sport was receiving the ASA Aquaforce Young Volunteer of the Year Award at the ASA Council Dinner in 2012. I was honoured to have received the award in recognition of my volunteering within aquatics.
