Craig McLean lowers British record for Freestyle gold

National Age Group Swimming Start

Carnegie swimmer Craig McLean lowered his own British Age Group record (15 Yrs) to clinch 15/16 Yrs 100m Freestyle gold on the penultimate day of the British Gas ASA National Youth Championships in Sheffield.

Having lowered his record to 50.95 in last night’s semi-finals, McLean sliced nearly half a second more off the time to take the touch in 50.53.

Derventio’s Abbie Wood was also impressive on the penultimate day at Ponds Forge, setting a three-second personal best 4:45.05 to hold off European Junior silver medallist Rosie Rudin and European Junior bronze medallist Georgia Coates.

Jessica Thielmann set a six-second PB for 400m Individual Medley victory in the oldest age group, clocking 4:42.26 to win 19 Yrs / Over gold by more than 13 seconds.

There were also standout performances from Jordan Hughes (17/18 Yrs 100m Freestyle) and Amelia Clynes (15/16 Yrs 200m Butterfly) as they claimed their second gold medals of the meet.
