Fraser Scott eases to 1500m freestyle title

Fraser Scott took the 18yrs+ 1500m Freestyle title with nine seconds in hand while Jordan Catchpole made it a hat-trick in day two finals of the ASA National Summer Championships 2016.

Men’s 1500m Freestyle finals

In the Men’s 1500m Freestyle event, there were seven heats filled with sheer determination and true swimmer’s grit. The 15yrs age group saw Joshua Harris capitalise on his bronze from yesterday, claiming gold after a fantastic swim. The Nova Centurion swimmer finished in a time of 16:57.93 to top the podium.

Scott of Basildon Phoenix took the 18yrs+ age group title over nine seconds ahead of George Russell in second place. He touched in 16.26.30 for a gold medal.

“It feels amazing to get a gold medal,” said Scott. “It’s potentially one of my last swims at the club, so I’ve been training hard towards it and it’s paid off.

“I’m hopefully going to college in Plymouth, but I’ll keep on with my swimming and continue on from there.”

MC 200m IM finals

It was double bubble for UEA Norwich in the MC 200m IM finals. Jordan Catchpole added a second gold to his tally of medals, taking his total up to three in the men’s event.

The SM14 swimmer of UAE Norwich swam a new personal best, topping the podium with 2:23.46 and 727 BDP. Katie Nesbitt also claimed a gold medal.

Men’s 50m Freestyle finals

In the 13/14yrs age group, Filip Fraczek-Krygier of Southampton Dolphins and Ellis Stanhope of Sevenoaks both lowered their personal best time for a second time, having already done so in the heats this morning. Fraczek-Krygier took gold with 25.52 and Stanhope claimed silver with 25.73.

In the 15yrs, Daniel Morley of Durham took his second gold of the competition, having won the title in the 200m Free yesterday. He touched in 24.79, just a fingertip ahead of Harry Noble in second place.

“It felt good going through the race, catching up and taking first,” said Morley. “It felt a lot smoother than in the heats. It was good to get a PB.”

Women’s 50m Freestyle finals

In the 16yrs age group, it was Millfield’s Olivia Halcox who took the gold medal with a new personal best and season best. She claimed the top spot with a time of 27.12.

United Bristol’s Annie Brown was the final sprinter to take a gold medal in the 50m Freestyle event. She was just inside of her personal best time, touching in 26.66.

“It feels amazing, I can’t quite believe it really,” said Brown. “I wasn’t expecting to medal. I just came her to try my best and see where I came, and I got a gold medal.

“I’ve got the 50m Breast on Thursday, and breaststroke is my stronger stroke, so I’m feeling more confident now.”

MC 50m Freestyle

Catchpole hit his golden hat-trick in the 50m Freestyle event. The S14 swimmer from UAE Norwich clocked 26.52, scoring 793 BDP for his third title in two days.

Keira Shepherd of Nova Centurion made it a double, adding the 50m Freestyle crown to her 100m Freestyle gold from yesterday. She touched in 31.55 for 780 BDP.
