With record numbers of entries across all five age groups, the 2014 British Gas ASA National Age Group and Youth Open Water Championships at Rother Valley from 3 – 4 August are set to be the most exciting yet.
British international Caleb Hughes is the star name in the top age group, having won European Junior silver over 7.5km last season and the National 1750m title two years ago.
British Gas ASA regional champions John McKavett (North West), George Cornwell-Brown (South West), Joel Allen (East Midlands), Thomas Diaper Fox (South East) and Timothy Shuttleworth (East) will also line up at Rother Valley as well as Scottish champion Jonathan Doyle.
GB international Lucy Campbell could be the pick of the women’s entries in the 17/18 Yrs 3km race, having won consecutive National titles in 2011 and 2012 and competed on the FINA World Cup circuit last season.
Campbell won the ASA South East title earlier this season and is one of seven regional champions in the field for the girls’ top age group.
Ealing’s Erin Nabney will be aiming to upgrade two places in the 15/16 Years Championship, having won bronze in the 2km event at Rother Valley 12 months ago.
Liyella Craw-Seaman won bronze in the 14 Yrs Age Group 12 months ago and will take on Nabney in the 15/16 2km race for the first time, having landed the ASA East Region title earlier this season.
Scott Deans will aim to defend his 15/16 Yrs title in the boys event, having won the Scottish title this year while last year’s 15/16 Yrs fourth place Ashley Hogg and 14 Yrs champion Charlie Humphries will also have their sights set on the podium.
Nathan Hughes and Sarah Branch both won the 13 Yrs titles 12 months ago and step up to the 14 Yrs Age Group in the 1.5km race this time round.
The 2013 12 Yrs champions Hector Pardoe and Molly Webster also return in boys and girls 13 Yrs Age Groups over 1.5km, the latter having won the ASA South East title this year.
Finally there will be 29 entries in the lowest Age Group of 12 Yrs looking to take to the National Open Water podium for the first time.
Spectator entry for both days of the British Gas ASA National Age Group and Youth Open Water Championships will be free but if you can’t make it to Rother Valley, we will be providing live text updates from the Championships.
