Become a Big Splash Ambassador

Don’t miss out on your chance to be a Sport Maker and be part of the official London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic legacy by joining our fantastic team of Big Splash Ambassadors.

If you like to keep fit and have fun in the pool, whether it is training to be the best or just splashing about, then the Big Splash Ambassador role could be perfect for you! As well as a great volunteering experience, you could also get a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to attend next year's Olympic and Paralympic Games. It's all part of the wider Sport Makers programme which covers all sports.

What is a Big Splash Ambassador?

Your aim will be to engage the local community in aquatics and increase participation by talking about and promoting the health and social benefits of swimming. It's all about getting your friends, your family and the wider community more active.

To help you on your way you can tell them all about our national campaign to get the nation swimming – the Big Splash!

Do I need to have swimming experience?

The simple answer is no! You don’t need to have had any previous swimming or volunteering experience to become a Big Splash Ambassador. All you need is a passion for exercise and promoting a healthy lifestyle along with enthusiasm and knowledge of your local community to promote pool based activity to your friends, colleagues and neighbours. It will suit anyone who wants to get out there and make sport happen!

What will I have to do?

  1. Be enthusiastic!
  2. Find your local pool with the Big Splash poolfinder and register.
  3. Find a time or activity where you would like to make a splash.
  4. Round up your friends; then sell them the benefits of being involved.
  5. Remind them the day before to bring their kit and their cash.
  6. Turn up and SWIM!
  7. Ask them afterwards if they want to do it again and suggest the next date.
  8. Encourage your friends to sign up to the Big Splash.
  9. Challenge your friends to enter the Big Splash Mile for Sport Relief Swimathon event. You can then all have a challenge to work towards.

As a Big Splash Ambassador you will become an official Sport Maker!

The ASA are working with County Sports Partnerships to offer these exciting volunteering opportunities as part of the wider Sport Makers programme, which covers all sports. It's part of the 'Places People Play' Sport England legacy programme, backed by the British Olympic Association and the National Lottery. You will join tens of thousands of new sports volunteers to directly make sport happen at a local level and organise and lead community sporting activity across the country.

By taking part in Sport Makers and completing 10 hours of volunteering, you could secure tickets to attend next year's Olympic and Paralympic Games. Click here to read more about the launch of the Sport Maker programme.

What do I do next?

You need to attend an informal and interactive workshop where you will gain the skills and knowledge to get involved. There will also be opportunities to meet top athletes! Register with Sport Makers at www.sportmakers.co.uk and sign up to a workshop today to get started.
