Free Swim Sessions at Have-a-go Health Days
25 January 2012
Three swimming pools across North East Derbyshire will be opening their doors to the public to offer free swimming activities as part of a series of Have-a-go Health Days.
Swimmers of all ages and abilities will have the chance to take part in exciting aquatic sessions, including Swimming X Factor, Aquacise, Aqua jog, Swimfit sessions and pre-school swimming lessons.
The sessions, which will take place on 27 and 29 January and 9 February, will give everyone a taste of why making a splash for just 30 minutes once a week is such fun, as well as great for fitness and wellbeing. Swimming plays an integral part in maintaining a healthy lifestyle and getting in the pool for just half an hour each week can burn up to 350 calories, help to control cholesterol and blood pressure, strengthen the immune system and maintain mental well-being.
Visitors will have the chance to try a variety of activities which can be integrated into their lifestyle, including a coached British Gas Swimfit session, Aqua jog and Aquacise. There will also be fun activities for younger swimmers, such as pre-school lessons, a disability swimming session and Swimming X Factor for budding athletes.
Outside of the pool visitors can access expert health tips and advice from organisations including the ASA and NHS, have a free health check and pamper themselves with a free nail treatment. Activities vary at each location, age restrictions apply and visitors are advised to book sessions in advance by contacting the leisure centre directly.
The pools taking part are Eckington Swimming Pool (27 January), Sharley Park Leisure Centre (29 January) and Dronfield Sports Centre (9 February). The full schedule of events can be found on each centre’s website.
