British Gas Swimming Championships closing in

Britain’s world champions Rebecca Adlington, Liam Tancock, Ellie Simmonds and Jonathan Fox are confirmed among a cast of hundreds of swimmers who will dictate the drama of the British Gas Swimming Championships 2012 at the London Aquatics Centre next month.
Entries are now closed and line-ups complete as the nation’s swimmers, with designs on achieving sporting greatness, target qualifying times for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
And the action will be witnessed over eight days (3rd - 10th March) by sell out crowds with close to 30,000 people having purchased tickets to support the nation’s swimmers as they chase their Olympic and Paralympic dreams. A small amount of tickets to three morning heats sessions are still available.
Those without tickets are also able to watch the action unfold everyday via the red button on the BBC, via BBC FiveLive and FiveLive Extra as well as on Swimming.org and the BBC Sport website.
British Swimming planned for and delivered the British Swimming Championships 2012 based on the provision of 2500 seats per session offered by LOCOG in July 2011.
LOCOG made an additional 968 seats per session available for FINA World Cup Diving event this month and also offered BS the option of adding these seats to the British Championships capacity.
British Swimming made the decision not to offer these tickets for sale based on the limited time available to market and sell the seats while resources were focused on the final stages of delivering of a world class event.
The seating capacity of the venue for the British Swimming Championships exceeds any other venue previously used for a national championships in recent years and will provide a unique theatre as Britain’s swimmers strive to achieve qualifying times for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The original capacity offered by LOCOG was based on the London Aquatics Centre achieving optimum temperatures for athletes on the Field of Play during the Olympic and Paralympic Games through natural ventilation of the seating stands.
Due to the lower outside temperature in March, a temporary environmental curtain has been installed to seal off part of the temporary section of the seating stands to retain heat within the building. This reduces the seating from a Games time capacity of 17,500 but ensures the athletes will experience the best possible conditions in which to perform.
Britain’s swimmers also have a chance to achieve an Olympic qualifying time at the ASA National Championships at Ponds Forge in Sheffield (20th - 23rd June 2012). Tickets for this event will be available from April. Please visit the event's Calendar Page for details.
