The Audit and Probity Committee

Probably the least known committee within swimming.  The duties of this committee include overseeing internal and external audit, reviewing the financial systems and monitoring compliance with the policy manual.

In addition, this is the committee which is charged with considering any allegations of improper behaviour, specifically in the areas of financial procedures and compliance with policy.  It is also our responsibility to make sure that the membership is aware of our existence and our role.

Members of the committee are appointed for single year terms and are eligible for reappointment.  The ASA Board appoints at least four members at its first meeting each year, one of whom must be a member of the Board.  In addition the British Swimming Board appoints one member each year.  Our minutes go to both the ASA Board and the British Swimming Board.  We usually meet four times a year, but can hold additional meetings if a need arises.

If any member has concerns about any part of the organisation they can raise those concerns with the Audit and Probity Committee.  The committee then has the authority to investigate and determine if proper procedures have been followed, and if that part of the organisation is acting in accordance with the stated rules, policies and aims of the organisation.  The committee would then report its findings to the Boards, along with any recommendations, and to the member who raised the query.  If necessary, in exceptional circumstances, the committee can make a report to Council.

Any questions or concerns can be raised with the committee via British Swimming at the address below. Please note: this committee is not part of the judicial appeals process.
