In British Swimming you will find information about the world of high performance sport, including the disciplines of Swimming, Diving, Synchronised Swimming, Water Polo and Para-Swimming.

The ASA is the governing body for the sport in England. In this section you will find all you need to know about joining a club or competing in England and becoming a swimming teacher or coach.

The IoS delivers the ASA’s courses and is a member organisation. Whether you are a teacher, coach, employer or club you will find everything you need to know about qualifications or educating your workforce.

  • Fran has a degree in management and marketing and is a school swimming teacher working for Manchester City Council.
  • Away from water polo, Fran enjoys playing netball and horse riding.
  • Her father Norman is a coach at her home club Rotherham Metro as well as being involved in water polo talent development at British Swimming.

Fran's Career

Fran has been a member of the senior British set-up since 1998 and captain since 2002. Having played in the World Junior Championships in 1999, she also played in the senior Championships in 2003 - the last time Great Britain's competed at a Worlds. She played for England at the 2002 and 2006 Commonwealth Games and claims her bronze medal at the 2002 Games in Manchester was one of her greatest achievements in the game. While she missed some of 2011 through injury, she returned to play in her first European Championships in January 2012 and led the Brits in their first forays at the Olympic Water Polo Arena at the VISA International Test Event.
