In British Swimming you will find information about the world of high performance sport, including the disciplines of Swimming, Diving, Synchronised Swimming, Water Polo and Para-Swimming.

The ASA is the governing body for the sport in England. In this section you will find all you need to know about joining a club or competing in England and becoming a swimming teacher or coach.

The IoS delivers the ASA’s courses and is a member organisation. Whether you are a teacher, coach, employer or club you will find everything you need to know about qualifications or educating your workforce.

Did you know?

  • Matt graduated with a Masters Degree in Business from Manchester University in 2001.
  • He was inspired to pursue a career in swimming after watching the Seoul Olympic Games on TV in 1988.
  • He gives motivational talks based on his life experiences and has been a Scout leader for more than 15 years.

Matthew's Career

Matthew is one of the most experienced members of the British disability squad, preparing for his fourth Paralympics at London 2012. He's won medals at every major international championship he has attended incuding 34pt 4x100m Freestyle Relay gold at the 2000, 2004 and 2008 Games as well as his first individual gold at the 2010 IPC World Championships in Eindhoven. Since 2008, Matt has dominated world 50m Freestyle swimming in the S7 class, topping the world rankings in 2009, 2010 and 2011 and winning gold in that event at each of the season's yearly majors. He qualified for London 2012 at the British Gas Swimming Championships where he won his third consecutive MC 50m Freestyle title.
