In British Swimming you will find information about the world of high performance sport, including the disciplines of Swimming, Diving, Synchronised Swimming, Water Polo and Disability Swimming.

The ASA is the governing body for the sport in England. In this section you will find all you need to know about joining a club or competing in England and becoming a swimming teacher or coach.

The IoS delivers the ASA’s courses and is a member organisation. Whether you are a teacher, coach, employer or club you will find everything you need to know about qualifications or educating your workforce.

British Gas Swimming Championships 2010

While Rebecca Adlington stole the headlines with an impressive 200m, 400m and 800m Freestyle hat-trick, there were impressive performances from a trio of Loughborough ITC swimmers at the European and Commonwealth trials.

Lizzie Simmonds smashed her personal bests to win the 100m and 200m Backstroke double, Liam Tancock clocked his second fastest career times in the 100m Freestyle and 100m Backstroke, and Fran Halsall underlined her status as sprint queen by winning a hat-trick of her own with 50m Freestyle, 100m Freestyle and 100m Butterfly gold.

Meanwhile, there were four world records broken as the British disability swimmers set about qualifying for the IPC World Championships. Jonathan Fox (S7) and James Crisp (S9) lowered the 100m Backstroke records in their respective categories, Sascha Kindred (S6) broke the 100m Butterfly record while Liz Johnson (SB6) set a new 100m Breaststroke marker.

Jo Jackson was the star of the 2009 Champs as she set a world record to win the 400m Freestyle and a Commonwealth record en route to 200m Freestyle gold. Hannah Miley impressed with European records to win the 200m and 400m Individual Medley titles while 17-year old Ellen Gandy set a European and Commonwealth record in the 200m Butterfly.

Heather Frederiksen (S8) was the star of the disability events in Sheffield as she broke the 400m Freestyle world record in the heats and final before repeating the feat in the 100m Backstroke. Fresh from her double Paralympic gold in Beijing, Ellie Simmonds (S6) also got in on the act, breaking the 400m Freestyle world record.
