Rebecca Adlington laid down an impressive marker as she fine-tuned her 800m Freestyle at the BUCS Championships in Sheffield.

Competing over her favourite 800m for the first time since winning World Championship gold in Shanghai last summer, the double Olympic champion touched home in 8:22.35.

After a first lap 28.92, Adlington maintained a steady pace to the wall, sticking between 31 and 32 seconds for every other 50m.

“Raced at BUCS in Sheffield this evening,” Adlington said on Twitter.

“Swam the 800 and pleased with the time. Went 8.22. Happy but was painful! Haha.”
