Gandy eyes golden horizon
28th July 2011 - The Daily Telegraph
In Shanghai on Thursday Gandy, who lives and trains in Melbourne, took silver in the 200 metres butterfly. She was 0.04sec off gold and, at 19, it was a performance that announced her talent to the world..
She is getting stronger by the meet and if her improvement continues, she will be favourite for gold next year.
“I know it is going to be amazing in London,” she said. “To hear the crowd for the Chinese, it was just like it was for the Olympics. I just can’t wait to experience that in London next year.
“I was really, really nervous for my last World Championships in Rome two years ago. I knew I had it in me but it was just about getting it out.
"I just had to keep my nerves down. I know what I need to do, I’ve rehearsed it so many times. I feel a lot better as soon as I dive in, that’s when all the nerves go.”
