8th December 2011

Jemma Lowe was the star performer for the British Gas GBR Swimming Team on day one of the European Short Course Championships as she claimed 200m Butterfly silver.

The British Gas ITC Swansea swimmer won silver over the same distance at last year’s World Short Course Championships in Dubai.

And after qualifying third fastest for the final in Poland, Lowe turned on the style to repeat the result, ultimately touching just 0.1 second off her British record in 2:04.04.

"I'm really pleased. I wasn't quite sure what to expect at this point in the season," said Lowe.

"I'm in hard training at the moment as well but I felt quite good this morning and confident tonight so I'm pleased I got on the podium.

"I think every competition now is just a practice race for the Olympics. It's all about racing the best people in the world - it's great practice."
