Second silver for Lowe at Europeans

11th December 2011

Jemma Lowe brought her European Short Course Championships to a close with a second silver medal in the 100m Butterfly.

The British Gas ITC Swansea swimmer won 200m Butterfly silver on the opening day in Poland and was a comfortable medallist over half the distance.

Lowe eventually touched home in 56.67, breaking her own three-year old Welsh record to climb the podium for the second time.

And she admitted she had pushed the pain barrier to secure the medal, having come to the meet without tapering.

“I wasn’t expecting that time though – I haven’t done a best in that event for three years.

“I knew she [Ottesen – the gold medal winner] would go out fast so I just swam a controlled race for the first 75 then put my head down and went for it. The last 25m really hurt but I’m really pleased with that.”
