Adlington blows off the cobwebs in Corby
30th January 2012
Rebecca Adlington blew off the cobwebs over the 400m Freestyle with a swift performance in her first attempt at the distance since last summer’s World Championships.
The Nova Centurion swimmer stormed to silver from lane one in the 400m Freestyle final in Shanghai last season but had not competed in the event since.
But Adlington showed few signs of rustiness at the ASA Central Zonal meet at Corby as she clocked 4:06.80 in her heat - nearly 10 seconds clear of the nearest challenger on the day.
The Olympic champion's effort propels her to number one in Great Britain this season as well as second-fastest in the world (to date) behind USA's Allison Schmitt (4:05.90).
After the race, Adlington tweeted: "Solid 400 free race done! Tired now but looking forward to the cinema."
