2nd December 2011

Susie Rodgers signalled her intent for the season with a record breaking return to action at the DSE National Short Course Championships at Ponds Forge.

The 28-year old, who will attempt to qualify for her first Paralympic Games at the British Gas Swimming Championships at London Aquatics Centre in March 2012, was one of the stand-out performers at the meet in Sheffield as she broke two European and one British record.

The five-time European champion kicked off her campaign with a British S7 record of 1:24.15 in the 100m Backstroke before clocking a European best 5:21.86 to take overall MC gold in the 400m Freestyle.

After the race, Rodgers tweeted: "400 done. Relief! New European record to boot. Can't complain even though time not quite what I wanted."

And Rodgers underlined her impressive form by taking a second MC gold in the final session, winning the MC 50m Butterfly in a European S7 record of 37.56.
