Adlington fastest for 400m Freestyle final

Double Olympic Champion Rebecca Adlington made her racing debut in the London Aquatics Centre with a quick swim in the heats of the 400m Freestyle.
Adlington featured in the final heat, alongside Jazmin Carlin and Sasha Matthews, and took the race out from the start. She gained a lead after her first 100m and kept with her pace to dominate the heat.
She held over a body length’s lead throughout the heat and touched in 4:06.75 to qualify for this evening’s final.
Olympic bronze medallist Jo Jackson will go into the final in lane five after securing a time of 4:08.12. She will be followed closely by Eleanor Faulkner who stopped the clock on 4:08.39.
Back-to-back World Champion Liam Tancock demonstrated his world class talent in his heat of the 100m Backstroke with a swim that ranked him first going into the semi final.
Tancock powered through the first 50m as he touched in the lead and performed an excellent turn to increase his lead on the field. He touched in 54.72 ahead of tonight’s semi final.
British Gas ITC Stirlng’s Ryan Bennett lies in second place for the semi final with a time of 55.17.
World record holder Gemma Spofforth leads the way into the women’s 100m Backstroke semi-final after a comfortable swim in the final heat. She touched in 1:00.82.
Elizabeth Simmonds was in the next lane to Spofforth and she goes into the semi final as second fastest after touching in 1:01.48.
The men’s 200m Freestyle saw four athletes qualify for the semi final within just one second of each other. Robert Bale will lead the men into this evening’s semi final after securing a time of 1:48.41.
Ieuan Lloyd is ranked second after touching in 1:49.11 followed closely by Robbie Renwick with 1:49.12. Ross Davenport was close behind in 1:49.39.
British record holder Kate Haywood showed her intentions for the Olympics with a strong heat swim in the 100m Breaststroke finishing in a time of 1:08.83.
Bath University’s Siobhan-Marie O’Connor will be second fastest for the semi final after touching in a personal best time of 1:09.15.
