6th March 2012

Heather Frederiksen and Ellie Simmonds led the way as six British women ducked under their respective Paralympic qualification times in the MC 100m Freestyle heats at the British Gas Swimming Championships 2012.

Frederiksen had already set S8 qualifying times in the 400m Freestyle, 100m Backstroke and 50m Freestyle from the first three days but continued her good form with a 1:08.81 for 905 points to progress first for tonight's 100m Free final.

Simmonds also scored 905 points for her 1:18.54 as she sailed underneath the S6 qualification time.

The world record holder will want to go faster tonight though with fellow S6 swimmer Natalie Jones also ducking under the Paralympics time in 1:22.53 and only one swimmer from each classification guaranteed a London 2012 spot after the two trials.

Having clocked a S12 European record to win 100m Backstroke gold on day two, Hannah Russell carried her good form in the 100m Freestyle, breaking her own British record in 1:03.11 to beat the qualification marker at the first attempt.

European S7 champion Susie Rodgers was also on form in the morning session, securing her Paralympic qualification time with a 1:12.57.

European S13 champion Rhiannon Henry was the sixth Brit to duck under her required time, clocking 1:01.82 to progress in third.

Matt Walker (S7) led the way in the men's event, backing up his MC 50m Free gold from last night with a 1:03.91 for 842 points.

Sean Fraser (S8) was second through in 1:01.09 for 839 points while David Ellis broke his S13 British record with a 56.59 for 828 points to progress in third.
