15th February 2012

Commonwealth champion Hannah Miley and Paralympic champion Sam Hynd were two of the last names to confirm their participation as the entry window closed for the British Gas Swimming Championships 2012 (Selection Trials).

LIST OF CONFIRMED ENTRIES HERE: All entries (including foreign)

Miley – who won her first long course World Championship medal with 400m Individual Medley silver in Shanghai last summer – is known for her exhausting schedules at national competitions and March’s Champs will be no different with the Scot entering six events.

As well as going for her seventh straight 400m Medley title and her sixth consecutive 200m Medley gold, the Garioch swimmer has entered the 200m Breaststroke, 400m Freestyle and 800m Freestyle.

She will also line up in the 200m Freestyle and will look to secure a spot on the Olympic 4x200m Freestyle relay team, having finished fourth in the same event in 2009 and 2010.

Hynd has also lined up a busy schedule, entering four events at
  London Aquatics Centre.

The Swansea HPC swimmer won’t be far off the podium in the 100m
Freestyle, 100m Breaststroke or 200m Individual Medley but his best
chance of topping the podium for the first time since 2009 will come
in the 400m Freestyle – an event in which he is Paralympic
champion and S8 world record holder.

Other notable entries include:

  • IPC world champion Thomas Young (400m Free, 100m Back, 100m Breast, 200m IM)
  • Commonwealth champion Robbie Renwick (100m Free, 200m Free, 400m Free)
  • Triple Paralympic medallist Claire Cashmore (50m Free, 100m Free, 100m Breast, 100m Fly, 200m IM)
  • Double Olympic medallist David Davies (400m Free, 1500m Free, 200m Fly)

31st January 2012

World Championship finalists Ellen Gandy and Jemma Lowe will take on British record holder Fran Halsall as all three confirmed their entry in the 100m Butterfly at the British Gas Swimming Championships 2012 (Selection Trials).

The women's 100m Butterfly is shaping up to be one of the events of the week with Gandy, Lowe and Halsall all in the top eight of last year's World Rankings.

Gandy and Lowe have also entered the 200m Fly - an event in which Gandy won silver and Lowe finished seventh at last year's World Championships in Shanghai.

Meanwhile, Halsall will look to defend her titles in the 50m and 100m Freestyle.

A number of Paralympic stars have also confirmed their entries for the Champs with Dave Roberts - who is targeting a record-breaking 12th gold at London 2012 - set to challenge in the 50m and 100m Freestyle.

Sascha Kindred is hoping to add to his six Paralympic golds in
London and will look to qualify in the 100m Freestyle, 100m
Breaststroke, 50m Butterfly and 200m Individual Medley, while
four-time Paralympic medallist Louise Watkin has lined up her
usual five events of 50m and 100m Freestyle, 100m Backstroke,
100m Breaststroke and 200m Individual Medley.

Commonwealth champion James Goddard and world champion Liam Tancock have also added their names to the Champs entry list.

Having struggled with a long-term shoulder injury in recent years, Goddard has dropped the 200m Backstroke from his schedule but will still look to defend his 200m Individual Medley title.

Meanwhile, Tancock will also bid for a fourth straight 100m Backstroke gold and try his chances in the blue riband 100m Freestyle.

An intriguing clash also awaits in the men's 100m Butterfly with both men set to take on the likes of defending champion Michael Rock and Commonwealth silver medallist Antony James for honours.

Meanwhile, Frederiksen - who won a gold, two silvers
and a bronze at the 2008 Paralympic Games - will line
up in five events at the London Aquatics Centre.
