World medallists join Sheffield line-up
28th May 2013
With less than 30 days to go until the Champs, the entry lists are beginning to hot up as Great Britain’s top international swimmers ready themselves for a shot at qualifying for the 2013 World Championships.
Tancock is aiming to qualify for his fifth World Champs, having medalled at each of the last four and won 50m Backstroke gold at the previous two in Rome (2009) and Shanghai (2011) respectively.
The 50m Backstroke world record holder also has an intimidating record at British Champs level, having won the 100m Back title at each of the past four stagings, and will compete over 50m and 100m Back this year.
Tancock’s training partner Halsall is also a World Championship medallist, having won 100m Freestyle silver in 2009, and will look to qualify for her fourth Worlds in four sprint events – 50m & 100m Freestyle and 50m & 100m Butterfly.
Carlin was one of the stars of the inaugural British Gas International Meet in March where she won a hat-trick of medals in the 400m, 800m and 1500m Freestyle events.
The 23-year old, who won World Championship bronze in the 4x200m Freestyle Relay in 2009, will aim to repeat the feat in those three events in Sheffield and will also compete in the 200m Free.
Lowe – who won a fifth World Short Course Championship medal in December last year – will compete in the 50m, 100m & 200m Butterfly events while Davies has entered the 50m & 100m Backstroke.
Other notable entries from the past seven days include Kevin Renshaw’s world class duo of Dan Fogg (400m, 800m & 1500m Free) and Roberto Pavoni (200m Back, 200m Fly, 200m & 400m IM), butterfly specialist Michael Rock (100m & 200m Fly), James Gibson’s sprint pair of Amy Smith (50m & 100m Free, 50m Fly) and Grant Turner (50m & 100m Free) and Sheffield freestyler Rebecca Turner (50m, 100m & 200m Free).
