In British Swimming you will find information about the world of high performance sport, including the disciplines of Swimming, Diving, Synchronised Swimming, Water Polo and Para-Swimming.

The ASA is the governing body for the sport in England. In this section you will find all you need to know about joining a club or competing in England and becoming a swimming teacher or coach.

The IoS delivers the ASA’s courses and is a member organisation. Whether you are a teacher, coach, employer or club you will find everything you need to know about qualifications or educating your workforce.

Chris Mears

Chris Mears underlined his potential in 2008, winning the 1m and Platform titles at the British Elite Juniors then claiming three individual medals at the European Junior Championships.

He recovered from life-saving surgery to remove a ruptured spleen in 2009 to win 3m Synchro gold with Nick Robinson-Baker at the 2010 British Gas Diving Championships then compete at his first major senior internationals, including a fourth place finish with Robinson-Baker at the Commonwealth Games.

In 2011, Mears defended his British title with Robinson-Baker but also landed his first individual honours with 1m Springboard silver and 3m Springboard bronze.

He also made his World Championship debut in 2011, finishing 14th in the 1m Springboard and seventh with Robinson-Baker in the 3m Synchro.

A third straight British 3m Synchro title saw Mears qualify for his Olympic debut at London 2012 where he finished fifth with Robinson-Baker in the 3m Synchro as well as reaching the final and finishing ninth in the 3m Springboard.

In the Pool

Greatest achievement to date: Finishing ninth in the World Cup prelim. It was my first World event and I dived really well under pressure.

Aspiration: To be part of the 2012 Olympic team  

Who has been greatest influence on you: My coach, Lindsay Fraser.

When did you begin diving: My Mum sent me to lessons run through the council because I used to jump around the house too much!

Out of the Pool

Other sports: Long jump and tennis
